Summary The position entails research and development in the emerging technology field of Vertical Axis Wind Turbines (VAWT's). Responsibilities include designing, prototyping, fabricating, producing, and testing mechanical systems. Knowledge of large mechanical systems is preferred.
Essential Job Functions: - Working with an interdisciplinary team to drive requirements and execute product designs from concept to production, including specification, design, prototyping, documentation, release control, validation, and testing - Mentoring junior engineers and designers on acceptable design/fabrication practices and product development processes - Working with the Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality organizations as well as vendors to ensure a smooth product launch
Qualification - B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with 10+ years of experience as a lead engineer for the design of complex mechanical components, products, and equipment - Experience in Design for Manufacturing, Design for Assembly, Tolerancing and GD&T - Strong hands-on experience with the ability to craft proof-of-concept prototypes - Good understanding and use of principles, theories, and concepts in mechanical engineering - Ability to effectively communicate concepts and proposals through design reviews - Extensive CAD experience with knowledge of best practices for part design, advanced assemblies, drawings, and configuration management - Good verbal and written communication skills and ability to effectively communicate concepts and proposals through design reviews and presentations to management - Strong organizational skills and ability to collaborate with others in a fast-paced environment - Customer-focused and able to prioritize work demands in a dynamic work environment with multiple projects and aggressive deadlines - Self-motivated and creative. Able to anticipate team needs, acquire new skills, improve processes, and mentor junior engineers
Preferred Qualifications - M.S. in Mechanical Engineering - Knowledge of electro-mechanical concepts - 10+ years of experience designing complex mechatronics/robotics systems - Demonstrated experience working with cross-functional teams and partnering closely with electrical engineers to deliver fully integrated real-world solutions - Proficiency in CAD, Simulation and Finite Element Analysis tools (Siemens NX and NX Advanced Simulation) - Proficiency in PDM and PLM experience, including change control process Served as technical interface with suppliers and customers. - Bi-lingual English-Mandarin, or English-Tagalog

Job Overview - California Energy and Power is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with FEA analysis experience to design parts for various mechanical systems. Qualified candidates are responsible for designing and analyzing sophisticated components and assemblies for a vertical axis wind turbine (VAWD). - This role requires the candidate to thrive in a high paced environment and be comfortable with the design, development, and test life cycle of rapid green energy R&D. - This role includes interfacing with engineering management, certification authorities, operations, external suppliers, and fellow design engineers and analysts, so strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.
Roles and Responsibilities - Design mechanical parts and assemblies for critical mechanical systems Includes drive systems, actuators, thermal systems - Create CAD parts and assemblies, create drawings for manufacture, assembly instructions - Perform initial sizing of parts and components Hand calculations, spreadsheets, initial FEA/FEM - Support initial builds and manufacture by close collaboration with the machine and assembly shops - Support developmental test efforts (ground and flight)
Required Qualifications - BS, MS, or Ph.D. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related field - Experienced in 3D CAD and model setup using Siemens NX Advanced Simulation, or equivalent - Skilled in generating detailed drawings, GD&T to ASME Y14.5-2009 standards - Excellent understanding of physics and proper mechanical design for strength and stiffness - Robust mechanical design aptitude with an analytical mindset - Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills - Strong understanding of mechanical design fundamentals and analysis methods for structures, assemblies, mechanisms, and joints
Desired Qualifications - Experience in designing, building, and testing mechanical hardware - Experience with finite element analysis tools such as Nastran, NX Advanced Simulation, ANSYS, or similar - Experience in mechanism design and kinematics - Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) simulation experience - Experience with non-linear materials
